Marcia's Christmas Note 2008

"MERRY CHRISTMAS" and a "HAPPY NEW YEAR" 2009.

Hello, Hello, H E L L O O O O!

Fanmily – Wellwishers - Old and New Supporters!

Here I am again greeting you GLOBALLY during this festive season, for us to celebrate another year passing us by, into another NEW YEAR with "POSITIVE" expectations. Even though our world is somewhat perturbed at the moment, with endless WARS, TERRORISM, GENOCIDE, STARVATION and ECONOMIC DEPRESSION, we still have to focus on our balance as human beings having to cope with these devastating outlets, thrown upon us by our same mankind.

At this point I’d like to share with you some of my activities since autumn into this last month of the year. It has been a FANTASTIC year indeed. I’ve had shows in Canada, Armenia, Russia, India (Twice) Dubai and Kazakhstan. Here I’m exhibiting some photos captured during these travels. I also had a couple of interviews which highlighted my PR corner, for example an interview with the radio station CJSO in Guebec - Canada. This was conducted by Lue Dononcourt on the 17th of October. The other one was with Peter Robertson for the "Daily Express" which was published on the 16th of this month, entitled How I battled For My Life. I’m hoping that with this article I’ve given some people a sense of hope and "FIGHTING POWER" for LIFE!

I also did a radio interview for HR 4 with Herman here in Germany. It was broadcasted on my birthday which was a lot of FUN! A couple of my shows were for CHARITY EVENTS. I was approached by Dr. P. Raghu Ram the founder of the "USHALAKSHMI Breast Cancer Foundation" in Hyderabad - India to take part, which was a honour and at the same time somewhat touching, being a breast cancer "SURVIVOR" twice. After that successful evening, my team and I boarded our flight the next day to Dubai where we presented another show for charity. This time was for the "Autism Kids" and it was also a successful evening indeed. Now I have more knowledge of what this unfortunate illness is all about. The following day Marcus and I accepted an invitation to visit the "Dubai Autism Center" and met some of the kids. We were both awarded Certificate of Appreciation by the General Director - Mohammad Al Emadi. Photos are displayed in our new photo collage.

By January 2009 my new single - a REMIX from my "SURVIVAL" CD will be published. Keep checking my webpage and my fanclub page for the exact release date. OK? After that I’ll hit you with more remixes leading into my New CD. HA! HA! HA! Are you ready?

Another piece of EXCITING news is about our new record label "XOAH RECORDS" which has been set up by one of my main men, Daniel Diezi. This will enable us to publish recordings after recordings. Great classy work again Daniel. Thank you most awfully dear. L E T `S R O C K!!!

Right now I would like to thank and congratulate my other main man Dan Lange who constructed and managing my FAN CLUB site. Dan, you are absolutely GREAT!

I`m ever so grateful to Robert Summers, who constructed my personal webpage so elegantly and professionally which has drawn so many viewers globally. Thank you Rob!

Let me also thank everybody who has taken the time in signing my "GUESTBOOK" over the years, expressing your admiration and joy in listening to the work and presentation of "BONEY M", keeping the sound ALIVE for over three decades. I’m also very chuffed with your comments regarding my "SOLO" work since I emerged with my project.

Now this special greeting goes out to Maizie, Bobby and Liz. Thank you for some beautiful years and may GOD Bless and keep you ALWAYS! Another greetings for Frank.

To a disturbing topic! I would like to make you aware of the many PHOENY "Boney M’s" out there on the market who are capitalizing from our hard work, including this said Sheyla Bonnick claiming that she was an original member of our setup. Alike herself these unknown rip-offs are taking our bread from our table, even though they did not contribute to the sound and unique presentation of "BONEY M". The shows they are presenting around the globe is indeed a disaster and must be banned immediately. Let me also add that not only these parasites are to be taken into account for but also these cheap agents who are booking them. It`s a mockery and disgrace tarnishing our good reputation, that we have created and brought to success over these years.

On a more pleasant note I would like to send out my gratitude to my team who are constantly on the road with me presenting my shows in a professional manner. A BIG thank you to my female vocalists who are Sina, Francy, Tuti, Julia, Peti and Liz Cunningham. To my SOUND ENGINEERS Ralf and Peddy. Ralf is also my guitarist and vocalist. Udo is on keyboards as well as vocals, on drums Sven is responsible to lead the tightness. My two dancers are Filippo and Isabell and last but not least my Marcus is on bass, percussion and lead male vocals.

Valentin, it was great seeing you in Berlin. Hope the fans are enjoying the interview I gave you. Thank you for the Christmas card and keep up the good work with your "Boney M" website from Spain.

Let me conclude this note at this moment, wishing everybody a "MERRY CHRISTMAS" and a "HAPPY, HEALTHY and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR".

PEACE and LOVE!!!

Marcia.

Marcia In Dubai

On 27th October 2008 Marcia did a charity concert at the American University of Dubai to raise awareness for Dubai Autism Center.

Marcia said about the charity concert:

"I think it's important to be part of the community - not only where you live but wherever you think you can serve. To be able to do this Charity Concert for DAC is therefore an honour. The Dubai Autism Center is a wonderful school and the therapists here are doing such a great job. I hope the concert has helped in some way toward a very precious mission"

SOME  MORE  SPOT  LIGHT  EVENTS

HELLO  FANMILY, WELLWISHERS, NEW SUPPORTERS!

I`m up and about with my constant Co.P (you know who) rubbing shoulders or as the terminology used ever so often as mingling. Yes indeed, that was the case when Marcus and I were invited to attend the 34th PKM SOMMER-BIWAK in the KRONPRINZENPALAIS in Berlin. Parlamentskreis Mittelstand Der CDU / CSU - Bundestagsfraktion. As you can see on our invitation the event was on the 24th June 2008.

The evening was quite vibrant and the HIGHLIGHT for me was when I met and shook hand with Bundeskazlerin der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Dr. Angela Merkel MDB. I was pleasantly surprised how very warm she was. The camaras were busy clicking away but I guess that the journalists, who got the shots kept them for themselves. HA! HA! HA! HA!

Nevermind, there will be other times when I`ll get them to take the shots with my camara. I did just that in capturing other photos of the evening.

Just look at me enjoying that cigar - JOKE! I was only posing with it and found it rather funny, smoking away without it being lit as I did in the "Ma Baker" video. Remember? The lovely lady who was rolling the cigars was from Brazil. The other photos are of other guests at the event.

On the 27th of June we had the pleasure of meeting YING from the act YING YANG TWINS

Now that was a hilarious evening. He was sooooo funny that laughter was the topping of the day. Unfortunately we couldn`t make it for their show in Berlin that night but will definitely do so on another occasion. YOU  ROCK YING! Congratulations on your success and thanks for the autograph.

In the meantime we are on our way to Erevan - Armenia for a show set for the 18th instant. Will definitely take some photos. OK?

Continue to stay tuned, my surprise will be revealed soon. That`s all for the moment I`m afraid. Take Care!  WALK GOOD!

WITH  GOD`S  GUIDANCE!!!

P.R. Update

Hello Fanmily - Supporters,

Are you feeling IRIE?  I am. Oh! by the way IRIE is a little Jamaican expression which means GOOD - VIBRANT. Got it? Good (smile)

As you know that there is another vital side to an artiste`s commitments in our business, which is the promotional input. Sometimes it can get a little bit hectic but I love that part of it too mind you and I`m catching up on the years that went by, whilst I was battling for my life. Thank God for the internet, which enables one to keep in touch with the world at anytime. Let me give you an update of what Iv`e been up to during the last six weeks.

The interview on "Dragonland Radio, with Markus Schultz via internet on the 24.5.08 between 8 - 10p.m. German time was enjoyable, even though I had to make some corrections with FACTS. You know what I mean? I was actually scheduled for a twenty minutes chat but stayed on for Markus`s full two hours air time. I hope that those of you who had the chance to listen in, enjoyed it. Thank you Markus for the invitation and will definitely pop in again.

I had another EXCITING telephone interview for BBC RADIO 2 on the 5th instant with DJ. Stuart Maconie. This was at 6.15p.m. GMT (7.15p.m. German time) The LIVE show was entitled "THE VINYL COUNTDOWN" of which "Boney M" was included in the TOP 5  of the "KILLER  POP  FACT" and was selected the NUMBER ONE with "Rivers Of Babylon" and "Brown Girl In The Ring" for sales in 1978, making the single officially 3 X platinum in Britain alone. It`s also good to know that this show usually have up to 5.5 million listeners. The interview was nice and fulfilling.

Now, on the next day which was the 6th instant, I was invited to be on the JURY panel at a beauty pageant in Berlin. The event was "Miss. & Mister Land Berlin 2008", which was held at the "ADAGIO" discotheque located at Marlene - Dietrich Platz 1. I enjoyed that immensely.

Some photos are displayed under this note, only on www.marciabarrettsite.com This info is for those of you who have logged on www.marciabarrettofboneym.com OK? You will have some other photos to view.

Last but not least, my surprises are just around the corner, STAY TUNED! I myself can`wait

HA! HA! HAAAAA! Until then.

 ONE  LOVE!!!

Here I am shopping for a particular mascara, which gives me a little more length on my lashes. Got it! The other shot was when Marcus decided to snap me, whilst waiting for the traffic light to change to green.

Here are the two winners. Miss & Mister Land Berlin. The other photo is presenting the bikini and men's swimwear. The third photo shows me presenting one of the six finalists in the contest.

Marcus can't wait to pick up his axe which is a 1962 Fender Precision Bass. It is lovely and he makes it growl.

Here is Marcus and Hans who owns the guitar shop - "Checkpoint Music". That's where Marcus gets an overall on his guitars when needed.

In Stockholm before my show. Boy was it cold, as you can detect with my apparel. Thank God for warm clothing.

BBC - Marcia In Georgia
'Boney M' on Georgia's frontline

Georgia has hired a member of 1970s pop group Boney M, famous for songs like Daddy Cool and Rasputin, in its fight for control of breakaway South Ossetia.

Marcia Barrett played a concert in a small frontline village not far from the rebel capital Tskhinvali.

Thousands of people came in cars, buses, trucks and on foot through a mountain pass skirting separatist territory to hear her sing.

The rebels have close ties with Russia and are trying to secede from Georgia.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili told the BBC he hoped the music would persuade people to lay down their arms.

"We hope that we'll lure out people from their trenches, force them to drop [their] Kalashnikovs, come here and dance with the others and understand that nothing is as nice as peace, nothing is as nice as reconciliation," Mr Saakashvili said.

"This place was only famous for killings, violence, crime past and present. And now it's like adding some new thing, it's looking much more colourful, much less violent, just normal, and being normal is such a novelty here," he added.

'Peaceful life'

Ms Barrett said she did not know much about the situation in this remote region of the former Soviet Union but said she wanted to promote peace.

"Because it's a peace festival I really feel honoured to be invited to come and take part," she told the BBC.

The concert took place in Tamarasheni, a village of around 500 people that remains loyal to Georgia.

Our correspondent says the event was planned by the Georgian authorities to show the South Ossetian separatists that life would be better and more fun if they returned to government control.

In the words of a Georgian official, he says, peaceful life resumes when people sing songs.

Gun battles

The village is in the middle of the conflict and witnesses regular gun battles despite a ceasefire.

All around the area are checkpoints manned by Georgian and Ossetian forces as well as Russian peacekeeping troops.

The war that erupted when South Ossetia broke away from Georgia after the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union cost thousands of lives.

Although the concert was billed as a Boney M gig and Marcia Barrett's band was introduced as Boney M, two groups also featuring former members of Boney M are touring under the same name.

Former Boney M vocalist Liz Mitchell had nothing to do with the concert in South Ossetia.

The legal rights to the name Boney M continue to be a matter of controversy.

Boney M have a loyal following in the former USSR. Their songs were among the few approved under Communist rule.

Marcia In Lithuania

Here are a few photos captured during and after our shows in Lithuania on the 31st of December 2007. In one shot you will notice that the entire crew got presents from the host.

After that we got to the airport for our flight back to Germany with beautiful bouquet of flowers each. What FUN!!!
HAPPY  2008.

Marcia In Russia and Lithuania

On 28th of December we had the pleasure of visiting Moscow – Russia where we were expected to perform at a private gala for President Vladimir Putin.

The gala was held by President Putin. My team and I performed "Sunny", "Hooray! Hooray! It’s A Holi- Holiday", "Rasputin" as well as a medley.

It was an honour to perform for President Putin. Unfortunately no cameras were allowed at the gala, so we can’t show you any pictures from this performance.

While being in Russia we also had the chance to visit the Red Square – just like in 1978.

Later in December it was time for a visit to Lithuania where two live shows were delivered. Arriving at 8 am by plane, we had a 3 hours drive to the first concert hall Lvairos Vietos in Lietuva before doing sound check at 12 pm. So no time was wasted!

The show started at 5 o’clock in the afternoon and went down superbly with an amazing atmosphere among the audience.

Around 8000 people attended the show, so the hall was packed. A lot of young children were seated in the first rows. We had a splendid time!

At 8 o’clock in the evening the second show took place at Kauno Sporto Halé in Kaunas. With another 8000 people in the audience the show went down just as well as the show in the afternoon! Another amazing atmosphere with great people.

We look forward to seeing you somewhere around the world in 2008.

Marcia.

Here you`ll find a photo from the Red Square when my team and I bought our ``RUSSIAN HATS, after we presented our show to President Putin at his private gala on the 28th of December 2007.

. It was lovely, cold but brought back memories of when `BONEY M.` visited MOSCOW in 1978. We were the first show event back then from the WESTERN borders to visit and perform in RUSSIA. Quite SENTIMENTAL!!!

On her right is Mr. Masaracchia who is the director of the Mercure hotel on Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. We had the privilege of meeting them both whilst we were there.

Look out for my Christmas Note. I can't wait for some time, to compose it. In the meantime Enjoy!

Marcia At "Mamma Mia" Musical Premiere
